OB Hospitalist Programs Lead to Measureable Improvements
Expert Notes That as Number of OB Hospitalists Grows, Outcomes Improve
Napa, California—April 23, 2013—The Doctors Company, the nation’s largest physician-owned medical malpractice insurer, announced today its latest video, “OB Hospitalist Programs Lead to Measureable Improvements,” in which Mark N. Simon, MD, MMM, OB Hospitalist Group and member of The Doctors Company’s Hospitalist Advisory Board, outlines how OB hospitalist programs promote patient safety.
In the video, Dr. Simon reviews how the roles of OB hospitalists have changed and how the concept of an OB hospitalist program has spread to hospitals of all sizes nationwide since it was first introduced in 2003. He also outlines the many benefits of a hospital employing OB hospitalists, including a reduction in liability claims against both the hospital and physicians. Dr. Simon presented this topic at the recent meeting of The Doctors Company’s Hospitalist Advisory Board.
“Patient safety—a key focus of The Doctors Company—is enhanced by OB hospitalists, who, Dr. Simon notes, improve maternal and neonatal outcomes,” said Stacy Schultz, vice president of marketing for The Doctors Company. “We are pleased to bring together Dr. Simon and other experts at our Hospitalist Advisory Board meeting to discuss the key issues specific to this specialty.”
